Cheshire Junior Legion
Wins First Game in Extras

Cheshire’s Junior Legion baseball team went
into East Haddam looking to start off the
season with a win.  It was the first of two
games of the day.  Taking the hill for Cheshire
was Matt Jefferis.  Jefferis pitched seven
innings and gave Cheshire a strong outing.
Cheshire’s offense started quickly in the first
inning after third basemen Ryan Rougeot
drove in centerfielder Brian O’Reilly(HBP) on a
single. East Haddam answered right back in
the bottom of the first with one run of their
own. Even though they gathered hits and put
men on base throughout the game, the
Cheshire bats were quiet until late in the
game. Eight of Cheshire’s ten hitters
collected at least one hit, but were unable to
get that big hit that would change the 1-1
score. Both of the teams’ solid defensive play
kept the game tied at 1, sending it into the
eighth inning. First baseman Jack Schuyler
started the Cheshire  with a single to left.  With
two outs  in the inning, shortstop Greg
Leonetti walked to put runners on first and
second.  After an error by the East Haddam
third baseman, O’Reilly looked to drive in the
go-ahead run with the bases loaded and two
outs. He walked on a 3-2 count to score
Schuyler.  Cheshire then added two
insurance runs with two outs, on a Jefferis 2
RBI single.  Leonetti was called on upon to
shut the door on East Haddam in the bottom
of the inning.  After surrendering a leadoff
single, Leonetti got the next two batters out on
a pop out and a strikeout.  East Haddam
would not back down.  An RBI single would
then make the game 4-2.  East Haddam
would then steal second base and score that
run on another RBI single. The game was
then 4-3.  Leonetti would bear down and
induced a groundout to shortstop.  With the
win, Cheshire’s record is now 1-0, looking to
win game two of the doubleheader against
Middletown later today.
                                                  Cheshire Juniors Rebound with Victory

Cheshire 4, Berlin 0

After being shutout by Wallingford, the Cheshire Junior Legion team looked to get back to the winning ways with a victory in Berlin. Starting pitcher was Greg
Leonetti.  Leonetti was very impressive, pitching a complete game shutout allowing just 2 hits with 5 strikeouts. He gave Cheshire a strong outing and an opportunity
to win. Leonetti would also be a factor on the offense end going 3-3 with an intentional walk, 2 steals and 2 runs scored.
The Cheshire offense started up early as Leonetti singled and moved over to second after second baseman Mike Gargiulo reached base on an error by the Berlin
shortstop. After Leonetti stole third base, shortstop Jordan Kubilus scored Leonetti on an RBI groundout to put Cheshire up 1-0. That’s all they needed as Leonetti
kept Berlin scoreless. The offense for Cheshire remained quiet until the sixth inning when they scored 2 runs on singles from right fielder Mike Severino and left
fielder Matt Jefferis. Cheshire added one more run in the top of the seventh on a Kubilus RBI single to score Leonetti. Another notable for Cheshire was Severino,
who went 2-3 with a run scored.
But, the story of the game was the pitching of Greg Leonetti. Leonetti was stellar over seven innings, giving Cheshire the 4-0 win. With this victory, Cheshire’s zone
record improves to 5-2.

Middletown Edges Out Cheshire in Last Inning
                                                           Middletown 2, Cheshire 1  6/13

With one win already under their belt, the Cheshire Junior Legion team was looking to take the second game of the day against a strong Middletown squad. On
the mound for Cheshire was sophomore Ryan Rougeot. Rougeot was strong and gave Cheshire exactly what they needed.  He went 5 innings allowing 7 hits and
1 run (unearned) with two strikeouts. Middletown scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning when a pitch from Rougeot hit off the front of the
plate and flew over the glove of catcher Mike Gargiulo to allow the runner from third to score.
The Cheshire bats were quiet until the sixth inning when freshman Vikram Lyall reached base with one out on a walk. The next batter Greg Leonetti also walked
to put runners on first and second with one down. After a pop out, centerfielder Jordan Kubilus singled to score Lyall and to tie up the game at one. Kubilus would
go then come into pitch in relief for Rougeot in a tie game. Kubilus struggled a little bit, but got through the sixth without allowing a run. Cheshire was also denied
the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh and looked to make the game go into extras in the bottom of the inning. Middletown had other plans.  After a one out
double and a walk, Middletown captured the victory with a RBI single to score the winning run from second and take the game 2-1.
With this loss, Cheshire split their double header and evened out their record at 1-1.

Cheshire Tops East Haddam in Blowout
                                                      Cheshire 11, East Haddam 2  6/16

Cheshire looked to bounce back from a tough loss against Middletown. Cheshire had already faced East Haddam once this year and won that game 4-3.
Pitching for Cheshire was freshman Jordan Kubilus.  Kubilus was impressive over five innings allowing 2 runs (both unearned) with no walks and 4 strikeouts.
The Cheshire offense came alive this game scoring 3 runs in the second inning to take an early lead. They would not look back from there. Cheshire would keep
their offense running, collecting another run in the bottom of the third. Meanwhile, the defense behind Kubilus was strong and fluent for the most part.  However,
East Haddam would collect their only two runs in the top of the fifth on two defensive miscues.  Cheshire’s bats would respond with three more runs in the bottom
of the inning to make the score 7-2.  Sophomore ace Ryan Fowler would then enter the game to pitch the final two innings. Fowler would fan 3 batters on just 19
pitches in two innings. In the bottom of the sixth, Cheshire would tack on 4 more runs to close out any East Haddam threat with a score of 11-2. Notables for
Cheshire were third baseman Ryan Rougeot, right fielder Mike Severino, and first baseman Jack Schuyler.  Rougeot collected 1 hit and a HBP while scoring two
runs. Severino reached base twice and scored two runs. Schuyler had 3 hits with 3 RBIs and scoring 2 runs. With this victory, Cheshire improves to 2-1 on the year.

Cheshire Keeps the Winning Going With Shutout
                                                       Cheshire 6, Guilford 0  6/17

Cheshire traveled to Guilford looking for their third win of the season.  Over the past view years Guilford has been one of the stronger teams in the zone and
usually at the top of the standings. This would not be the case in this game. Taking the hill for Cheshire was Pat Lenehan. Lenehan had a very strong showing,
going 6 innings allowing only two hits on only 48 pitches.
The Cheshire bats were quiet until the third inning. Catcher Dave Proto led off the inning with a single, followed by a one out single by Lenehan. Centerfielder
Brian O’Reilly also collected a single to load the bases.  Second baseman Mike Gargiulo then knocked in Proto and Lenehan with a 2 RBI single. Shortstop
Jordan Kubilus would keep the scoring going with an RBI single to score O’Reilly. First baseman Jack Schuyler scored Kubilus from first with an RBI double for
the fifth run of the inning.
Cheshire’s defensive play behind Lenehan was strong and stopped any type of rally by Guilford. The offense of Cheshire generally stayed quiet until the top of
the sixth inning when they added one more run on a Greg Leonetti RBI single.  Dave Proto would enter to pitch in the bottom of the seventh to shut the door on
Guilford and give Cheshire their third win of the season, improving their record to 3-1.

Cheshire Kicks Off Tournament with Win
                                                      Cheshire 7, Trumbull 2  6/19

The Cheshire Junior Legion team looked for a first round victory in the South Windsor Legion Tournament against Trumbull.  Taking the hill for Cheshire was
Ryan Rougeot. Rougeot once again appeared strong as he allowed two runs (both unearned) on one hit while walking five and striking out four.
Cheshire’s offense started off early as leadoff hitting centerfielder Brian O’Reilly walked. Catcher Mike Gargiulo then singled to move O’Reilly to third. After
Gargiulo stole second, shortstop Jordan Kubilus scored O’Reilly on an RBI groundout to put Cheshire ahead 1-0. However, Trumbull responded with a run of their
own off a past ball in the bottom of the inning.  The game remained 1-1 through the third inning. In the top of the fourth, Cheshire would add two more runs coming
off a Greg Leonetti 2 RBI single.  Cheshire would pad their 3-1 lead in the fifth inning with three more runs coming off an RBI single from Tyler Robertson and a 2
RBI single by Rougeot. The score would now be 6-1.  Trumbull scored one run in the bottom of inning to make the score 6-2. Cheshire would tack on one more
run in the top of the sixth to go up 7-2.  That would become the final score as Leonetti was called upon the shut the door on Trumbull.
Cheshire’s tournament record was now 1-0.

Cheshire Juniors Get Another Win in Second Round
                                              Cheshire 5, South Windsor 3  6/20

The Cheshire Junior Legion team was looking to go 2-0 in the tournament facing off against hosting team South Windsor. On the mound for Cheshire was
Jordan Kubilus. Kubilus gave Cheshire a good outing going five innings allowing 3 runs (earned) and striking out 3. South Windsor scored their three runs all in
the second inning off Kubilus. That would be it, however, as Kubilus kept South Windsor scoreless for the next few innings.
The bats for Cheshire were kept scoreless until the fourth inning when first basemen Jack Schuyler (walk) scored to give Cheshire its first run.
The score remained 3-1 in favor of South Windsor until the bottom of the sixth inning. Second baseman Mike Gargiulo kicked off the inning with a double and
would eventually score off a Kubilus RBI single. Schuyler reached base on an error to bring up extra-hitter Tyler Robertson. Robertson came through with a 2 RBI
single to score Kubilus and Schuyler. Robertson would then score off an RBI single by catcher Brendan Carbone. This would make the score 5-3 in favor of
Cheshire.
Greg Leonetti would again be called upon to get the save in the last two innings. Leonetti pitched the fifth and sixth, allowing no hits with one walk and striking
out two. The final score would turn out to be 5-3 and Cheshire’s tournament record was now 2-0.

                                                 Cheshire Gets Shutout Against Stamford
                                                               Stamford 7, Cheshire 0  6/20

The Cheshire Juniors aimed to improve their tournament record to 3-0 against a very strong Stamford squad who was also undefeated in the South Windsor
Legion Tournament.   On the hill for Cheshire was regular catcher Dave Proto. Proto has had limited pitching experience and was put to the test against Stamford.
Stamford scored early in the first inning off a past ball to go up 1-0. Cheshire’s defense was solid behind Proto, but the offense was kept quiet by the Stamford
pitcher. Cheshire had no answer for him.  Entering the bottom of the sixth inning, the score was 2-0 Stamford. Coming into the game to pitch was Brian O’Reilly. O’
Reilly, like Proto, did not have much pitching experience in games.  He gave a good effort, but the Stamford bats were just too much to handle. Stamford broke
open the game with five runs off five hits and two walks to take a 7-0 score. That score would stand and Stamford would go onto win against Cheshire.
Cheshire’s tournament record would fall to 2-1, but they later found out they would play for the tournament championship against the same Stamford team the
next day.

                                              Tournament Championship Game Rained Out

The South Windsor Junior Legion Tournament game between Cheshire and Stamford was rained out after one inning of play.  A date for the game is still to be
determined.

Cheshire Shuts Out Guilford for Second Time
                                                        Cheshire 7, Guilford 0  6/22

Cheshire looked to improve their zone record to 4-1 against Guilford, who they shutout in the one previous meeting between the two towns this year.  On the hill
for Cheshire was Pat Lenehan, who threw that shut out.  Lenehan again looked very impressive, throwing a complete game shutout. He allowed only three hits
while striking out five.
The offense of Cheshire was active in this game, starting in the third inning. Shortstop Greg Leonetti started up the bats with a one out single followed by stolen
base of second. Left fielder Jordan Kubilus would drive in Leonetti with an RBI single to make the score 1-0. First baseman Jack Schuyler would make the score 2-
0 with an RBI double off the wall.
With the score still 2-0 and Lenehan pitching a gem, Cheshire added another run in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Lenehan. Cheshire would really
break things open in the top of the fifth. Kubilus would collect a leadoff double to bring up Schuyler. Schuyler would send in Kubilus with an RBI single. Cheshire
would tack on two more runs in the inning to take a 7-0 lead that would stand for the remainder of the game.
With this win, Cheshire’s zone record would improve to 4-1 as they keep rolling.

Cheshire Juniors Take Game 1 Behind Strong Pitching
                        Cheshire 5, Middletown 1       6/28

The Cheshire Junior Legion team looked to get a victory in game one of a doubleheader against a
strong Middletown team.  Middletown, who was tied with Cheshire atop the standings, beat Cheshire
earlier in the season by one run.  On the hill for Cheshire was Ryan Fowler. Fowler looked spectacular,
pitching a complete game with one earned run allowing only 2 hits while striking out 5. He gave his
team the opportunity to win.
The Cheshire offense really started in the bottom of the second inning. After back-to-back walks by
catcher Ryan Rougeot and centerfielder Brian O’Reilly, shortstop Greg Leonetti stepped in the box.
Leonetti drove in both Rougeot and O’Reilly with a 2 out 2 RBI single. That turned out to be all the run
support Fowler needed as he made the Middletown batters look foolish at the dish. Cheshire added
another run in the third to make the score 3-0 in favor of Cheshire.
The defense of Cheshire was tight behind Fowler, not committing an error throughout the game. The
bats of Cheshire were generally quiet until the bottom of the sixth when they tacked on two more runs off
of Middletown errors to make the score now 5-0 heading into the 7th. Middletown finally got on the board
with one run in the top of the seventh, but that would be it as Fowler got out of the jam and earned the
victory.
With this important win, Cheshire improved to 6-2 in the zone and looked to take the second game of
the doubleheader against Middletown.

Cheshire Takes Game 2 in Extras
                        Cheshire 5, Middletown 4      6/28

After an impressive win in game one, Cheshire aimed to take game two and sweep the doubleheader
against Middletown. On the mound for Cheshire was Jordan Kubilus. Kubilus was a little shaky in the
first inning, allowing 2 runs to give Middletown an early 2-0 lead. However, Kubilus settled down and
looked strong through the next couple innings.
Cheshire was held scoreless until the third inning when catcher Mike Gargiulo singled. He then stole
second, reached third on an error and scored on a wild pitch. This made the score 2-1 in Middletown’s
favor. Cheshire tied up the game at 2 in the bottom of the fourth.  Left fielder Justin Klanica singled, stole
second and later scored on an RBI single by shortstop Pat Lenehan. Middletown would score two more
runs of their own in the top of the fifth to make the score 4-2. The score would remain the same until the
bottom of the seventh, the last chance for Cheshire. Middletown would then enter a new pitcher to try to
close the door on Cheshire. However, the new pitcher was a little wild, allowing Cheshire to tie the
game on wild pitches and past balls. Scoring for Cheshire was Max Formica and Tyler Robertson.
Cheshire would end the inning with the score 4-4, heading into the 8th inning. Pitcher Pat Lenehan
would keep Middletown off the board in the top of the inning, giving Cheshire the chance to win the game
in the bottom of the inning. A two out walk to Gargiulo brought up shortstop Greg Leonetti. Leonetti hit a
chopping groundball to the Middletown third baseman. The third baseman had a poor throw that
bounced over the first baseman’s glove and rolled past him.  A hustling Gargiulo was able to score all
the way from first to give Cheshire a dramatic walk-off win against Middletown.
With these two important victories, Cheshire swept the doubleheader and improved to 7-2 in the zone.
Cheshire Falls to Wallingford in Shortened Game
                             Wallingford 4, Cheshire 3       6/30

Going into their game at Wallingford, the Cheshire Junior Legion team aimed to get a win against the top
ranked team in the zone. In their previous meeting, Cheshire was shutout against Wallingford. On the mound for
Cheshire was Ryan Rougeot. Rougeot threw 5 2/3 innings, allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits while striking
out 7 batters.
Cheshire broke the scoreless tie in the top of the second inning when shortstop Tyler Robertson scored on
an RBI groundout by catcher Brendan Carbone.  Wallingford would respond in the bottom of the inning, however,
as they tacked on two runs to make the score 2-1 in favor of Wallingford. The score remained the same until the
top of the fourth inning when Cheshire scored two runs to go ahead by one run. After doubling, Robertson
scored on another double by Rougeot. Rougeot would then score on a RBI sacrifice bunt by Carbone.
Wallingford would respond in the bottom of the fifth with two runs of their own to make the score 4-3.
However, the weather would stall the game.  After several delays due to lightening strikes, the game was
finally called in the sixth inning with the score 4-3 in favor of Wallingford. That would be the final score as
Cheshire’s zone record fell to 7-3.

                         Cheshire Juniors Top Guilford
                               Cheshire 7, Guilford 4       7/6

In their previous two meetings this year, Cheshire has shutout Guilford twice with easy wins. On the hill for
Cheshire was Matt Jefferis. Jefferis had been injured for the past few weeks and this was his first start since the
injury. Being limited to a certain number of pitches, Jefferis pitched just two innings allowing one run on one hit
while striking out one. Cheshire would then enter Pat Lenehan to pitch. In the two games versus Guilford this
season, Lenehan collected the two wins in the shutouts. Lenehan would go 5 innings allowing three runs
(earned) on 9 hits while striking out two.
After a scoreless first inning, Cheshire would score first in the top of the second with three runs on a bases
clearing double by second baseman Mike Gargiulo. This would put Cheshire up 3-0. Guilford would answer in
the bottom of the inning with one run to make it 3-1, Cheshire.  They would then score three more runs in the
bottom of the fourth on four straight hits with 2 outs to go ahead 4-3. Cheshire would tie the game in the top of
the fifth to make the score 4-4. The offense of both teams were quiet until the top of the seventh when Cheshire
tacked on three runs to make the score 7-4 in favor of Cheshire. Scoring for Cheshire in the seventh were
centerfielder Brian O’Reilly, third baseman Vikram Lyall and left fielder/shortstop Jordan Kubilus.
Lenehan would shut down Guilford in the bottom of the inning to ensure the victory with a bases loaded game
ending 6-4-3 double play. This would be Cheshire’s third win against Guilford this season and would improve
their zone record to 8-3.
                                   Cheshire Juniors Top Berlin
                                     Cheshire 3, Berlin 1      7/9

The Cheshire Junior Legion team went into Berlin looking to add a win and remain atop the standings for
Zone 3.  In their previous meeting this year, Cheshire defeated Berlin by a score of 5-2.  On the hill for Cheshire
was Ryan Rougeot. Rougeot pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing only one earned run on six hits while striking out
four.
Berlin took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but that would be it as Rougeot shut down the Berlin
bats throughout the game. The Cheshire offense also remained quiet until the top of the fifth inning as catcher
Dave Proto singled with one out to send up centerfielder Brian O’Reilly. O’Reilly walked to put runners on first
and second with one down. After a groundout, left fielder Brendan Carbone stepped into the box with runners on
second and third with two outs. Carbone came up with a clutch 2 RBI double to score Proto and O’Reilly to put
Cheshire in the lead 2-1. Carbone would then score off a RBI single by second baseman Mike Gargiulo. The
score would now be 3-1 in favor of Cheshire.
Cheshire would then enter Pat Lenehan in to shut the door on Berlin. Lenehan pitched the final 1 2/3 innings
allowing only one hit on just fourteen pitches. With this victory, Cheshire’s zone record improves to 9-3.

Cheshire/ Wallingford Duel Ends in Tie
                                      Cheshire 2, Wallingford 2     7/10

Cheshire hosted second place Wallingford looking to separate themselves in the standings with a win.
Cheshire was winless in the two previous games against Wallingford this season. Looking to change that for
Cheshire was Jordan Kubilus.  Kubilus gave Cheshire a strong outing allowing no runs over six innings while
striking out three.
Cheshire broke the 0-0 tie in the second inning as centerfielder Matt Jefferis would score off a couple
Wallingford errors. The score would then be 1-0 in favor of Cheshire. The score would remain that way until the
bottom of the fifth inning when third baseman Mike Gargiulo singled with one out. He would then steal second
and third. Gargiulo would eventually score on a double play to make the score now 2-0.
Going into the bottom of the seventh with the lead, Cheshire entered Matt Jefferis to pitch and cap off the
much needed victory. Wallingford led off the inning with a single. After a strikeout, Wallingford singled again to
put runners on first and second. After a fly out for the second out, the Wallingford leadoff hitter stepped into the
box. He would hit a deep fly ball to centerfield, but the Cheshire centerfielder looked to be camped under it for the
final out. However, the ball hit off his glove onto the ground. Both of the Wallingford runners would score on the
error to tie the score 2-2.
The game remained at a stalemate for the next two innings as neither team was able to capitalize when they
got runners on. Due to darkness, the umpires called the game with the score still tied 2-2 in the ninth inning. The
tied game will be continued at a later date.

Cheshire Upends East Haddam in Game 1
                                  Cheshire 12, East Haddam 2    7/11

Cheshire hosted East Haddam with the goal of padding their lead atop the standing of Zone 3. On the mound
for Cheshire was Dave Proto. Proto pitched a complete game allowing only two runs (one earned) on just three
hits.
The Cheshire bats started early as they would score one run in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI single
by second baseman Tyler Robertson to score first baseman Jordan Kubilus.  This would make the score 1-0.
However, East Haddam would respond in the top of the second with a run of their own to even the score at 1.
The Cheshire offense would explode in the bottom of the third inning.  Cheshire would score eleven runs the
blow open the game. Each batter would reach base at least once in the inning and eight of the nine batters
would score in the inning. Notables for Cheshire were catcher Mike Gargiulo, first baseman Jordan Kubilus,
right fielder Mike Severino and left fielder Matt Jefferis.  Gargiulo collected a 2 RBI double and scored a run.
Kubilus would score twice and hit a 2 RBI double. Severino would collect 3 RBI in the inning off an RBI single
and a 2 RBI single. Jefferis would have 2 RBIs off a sacrifice fly and a walk. Shortstop Pat Lenehan, Kubilus, and
Robertson would all score twice in the inning. The score would now be 12-1 in favor of Cheshire.
East Haddam would add another run late but it wasn’t enough.  With this big victory, Cheshire’s zone record
would improve to 10-3.

Cheshire Takes Game 2 in Walk-Off Fashion
                                Cheshire 6, East Haddam 5    7/11

After an easy win in game one of the double header against East Haddam, the Cheshire Junior Legion team
looked to sweep East Haddam on the day.  However, game two would not be as easy as game one. On the
mound for Cheshire was Vikram Lyall. Lyall struggled a little bit, allowing five runs in three innings, but striking
out three.
The Cheshire offense started early again in game two, scoring one run in the bottom of the first to make the
score 1-0.  They scored this run off a sacrifice fly by third baseman Tyler Robertson to score designated hitter
Mike Gargiulo. However, East Haddam would come back with two runs in the top of the second inning to take the
lead 2-1.  Cheshire would then respond with two more runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to put
themselves back in the lead 3-2.  Scoring for Cheshire were catcher Ryan Rougeot and second baseman Max
Formica. But, East Haddam would strike again for three more runs in the top of the third to go ahead again 5-3.
Cheshire would enter Brendan Carbone in to pitch in the fourth inning in relief of Lyall.  Carbone pitched the
final four innings, holding East Haddam scoreless.
The score would remain 5-3 until the bottom of the fifth inning when Cheshire added one run to make the
score 5-4, in favor of East Haddam. This would remain the score until the bottom of the seventh inning. Leading
off the inning for Cheshire was first baseman Jack Schuyler. Schuyler walked and was pinch run with Brian O’
Reilly. O’Reilly moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Robertson. With one out in the inning, centerfielder Matt
Jefferis singled to put runners on first and third. O’Reilly would score on an East Haddam error to tie the game 5-
5.  Jefferis would eventually come around to score the winning run off the RBI single by catcher Ryan Rougeot.
With this walk-off win, Cheshire would sweep the double header and improve their zone record to 11-3.

Cheshire Beats Berlin in Balk-off Fashion
                                    Cheshire 2, Berlin 1     7/12

The Cheshire Junior Legion team has beaten Berlin in all of their previous games this season and was
looking to add another win against them on Sunday.  However, they did not expect this close of a game. This
would become a long, extra inning duel.  Starting pitcher for Cheshire was Pat Lenehan. Lenehan was
spectacular over ten innings allowing only one run with just 87 pitches. He gave his team the chance to win, but
would not earn the victory after ten innings of six-hit ball.
The score stayed 0-0 until the bottom of the third inning when third baseman Ryan Rougeot scored second
baseman Tyler Robertson (single) on an RBI single. However, Berlin would come back with one run in the top of
the fourth inning to even the score at 1-1.  The game would remain tied through the seventh inning, sending the
game into extra innings. The game was not close to over at that point. It would remain a stalemate through
twelve innings. Both teams would put runners on base, but were not able to bring a runner around to score.
After ten innings, Cheshire put in Rougeot to pitch. He would keep Berlin off the board for the next three
innings and would eventually pick up the win. The epic, extra inning game would finally come to an end in a very
rare way.  With runners on first and third and two outs, the Berlin pitcher would fake a pick off to third and fake to
first. For this not to be a balk, the pitcher must throw the ball to first, but the Berlin pitcher did not. This was a balk
and would advance both runners, including the game winning run for Cheshire.
With this unusual thirteen inning win, Cheshire would improve their zone record to 12-3.
